The person doing the work.

I'm Tom Chard. I design and hand-code websites for small businesses, makers and societies, from Bristol.

Thirty years of ink, and code.

I've worked in Bristol print and manufacturing for thirty years, and I'm still managing director of a printing business here in the city. Presses, payroll, VAT returns, suppliers, and customers who need an answer this afternoon rather than next week.

That's the part that matters. I've spent far longer being the person who pays for a website than the person who sells one, and I know exactly how it feels to be quoted a number with no explanation, handed something you can't update, and billed monthly for the privilege.

So I build the sites I always wanted to be sold. Hand-coded, quick, quietly beautiful, yours to own outright, and explained in plain English by the person actually doing the work. There's no account manager here. There's me.

How I workWhat print taught me.

01

Proof before press

In print, nothing runs until the customer has signed off the proof. It's the same here: you see previews as your site takes shape, and nothing goes live until you're happy with it.

02

A price is a price

Thirty years of quoting jobs taught me a quote should mean something. Once we've agreed what the site needs to do, you get a fixed price, and anything extra is quoted before I start.

03

You talk to the maker

No account manager, no ticket system. You deal with the person designing and building your site, and you get straight answers in plain English.

04

Made to last

Good print outlives the job it was made for. Hand-written code has no plugins to break or update every week, so your site keeps working, year after year.

“It feels like me, it looks like my studio, and I actually understand how it all works.”

Who I work with.

Shops, studios, makers, photographers, services and volunteer-run societies: small organisations that want a site that looks the part and quietly does its job. Most of my clients are in Bristol, Keynsham and Bath, but most of the process happens over email, calls and the occasional coffee, so distance is rarely an issue.
