Web design in Bristol, built by hand.
I'm Tom Chard. I build bespoke websites for small businesses across Bristol — hand-coded line by line, with no templates and no page-builders. Fast, beautiful, and made to last.
A proper website, for a Bristol business that deserves one
Most small businesses are handed the same thing: a template everyone else is using, slowed down by plugins, awkward to change, and out of date within a couple of years. I do it differently. Every site I make is designed for your business and written by hand, so it's quick, secure, and genuinely yours — not a theme with your logo dropped on top.
I work with small businesses and sole traders in Bristol, Keynsham, Bath and the surrounding area — shops, studios, makers, societies and services who want a site that looks the part and quietly does its job.

Why hand-built beats a template
Fast
No page-builder bloat. Hand-written code loads quickly, which visitors and Google both reward.
Yours alone
Designed around your business, not stamped from a theme a thousand others are already using.
Built to last
No plugins to break or update every week. A site that keeps working, year after year.
Secure & simple
Fewer moving parts means fewer things to go wrong — and nothing for you to maintain.
Simple, start to finish

Bristol and beyond
Based in Bristol, I work with businesses right across the city and the surrounding towns — Keynsham, Bath, Portishead, Clevedon, Nailsea, Thornbury and further afield. Most of the work happens over a friendly mix of email, calls and the occasional coffee, so wherever you are, it's easy.
Common questions
How much does a website cost in Bristol?
My prices are fixed once we've agreed the scope. They start at £1,400 for a hand-coded small-business site, £3,000 for a site with a shop and checkout, and £6,000 for an art-directed flagship or a multi-site estate. You'll always get a fixed quote up front, so there are no hourly surprises. Registered charities and volunteer-run societies pay around 20% less.
How long does it take to build a website?
The build itself is usually quick — often a couple of weeks for a smaller site. What really sets the pace is how fast we can gather your words, photos and feedback, so the sites that move quickest are the ones where everything comes back promptly. I'll give you a realistic estimate once I've seen what's involved, and I'll always keep things moving from my end.
Do you use WordPress or a website builder?
Not by default — I hand-code from scratch, which makes your site faster, more secure, uniquely yours, and free of the plugins that so often break or need constant updating. If a project genuinely needs a content management system so your team can edit it day to day, I'll tell you that up front rather than talk you out of it.
Will my site work on phones and tablets?
Always. Every site I build is fully responsive, so it looks and works beautifully on any screen, from a phone to a large monitor.
Do you offer ongoing support after launch?
Yes, and there's no monthly bill just to keep your site online. Hosting, SSL and backups are included for as long as you have the site, and if something goes wrong with the site as I built it, I fix it. Beyond that there's an optional care plan — £30 a month for Essentials, £45 for Commerce, from £60 for Signature — which covers time for changes each month, a guaranteed two-day turnaround and an annual review. It's entirely optional and you can cancel any time.
Do you only work with Bristol businesses?
Bristol's home, and a lot of my clients are local, but I'm happy to work with businesses anywhere. Most of the process happens remotely, so distance is rarely an issue.
